 The Full Story

Background:

The British Community in Thailand Foundation for the Needy (BCTFN) is a respected organisation with a long history of charitable contributions and community support in Thailand. With its legacy (originally as the UKCTC), dating back to the war years, BCTFN has consistently demonstrated its commitment to sustainable community projects.

Founding and Tradition:

BCTFN's origins trace back to the war era with fund raising and events were somewhat ad hoc. In 1957 UKCTC initiated an annual fair inside the British Embassy on Ploenchit Road. Known therefore as Ploenchit Fair, and despite its moving location, the name remains as a reflection of its origins, intent and values.

Ploenchit Fair and Charitable Initiatives:

Today, the Ploenchit Fair stands as a testament to BCTFN's dedication. The organisation has taken up the mantle of organising this fair, and its scope has expanded beyond just fundraising. BCTFN oversees the careful distribution of funds generated through the fair to a diverse range of projects. These projects span crucial areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and disaster relief.

Collaborative Approach:

The British Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (BCCT) is a pivotal partner in BCTFN's endeavors. This partnership exemplifies the collective commitment of British expatriates and organizations to support Thai communities.

Notably, in 2000, BCCT and BCTFN jointly made substantial contributions to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's Foundation to honor the late King Bhumibol’s sixth cycle birthday. To this day this collaborative spirit endures, with numerous British companies generously supporting Thai charities.

Vision and Mission:

BCTFN and BCCT remain steadfast in their shared vision of providing assistance to those in need in Thailand. Emphasizing sustainable and long-term community projects, the organizations focus on initiatives that create lasting impact. By channeling resources towards education, healthcare, agriculture, and disaster relief, BCTFN and BCCT demonstrate their commitment to building stronger, more resilient communities.

Continued Support:

The legacy of BCTFN's charitable work persists when, together and with the wholehearted support of the many British companies and individuals, they remain dedicated to fostering positive change in Thailand through sustainable and impactful initiatives and continuing support of Thai charities.
