About BCTFN

A Legacy of Giving

The British Community in Thailand Foundation for the Needy (BCTFN) is a charitable organisation operating under the auspices of the British Embassy in Bangkok.

Originally formed through charitable efforts within the British community in Thailand during the 1950s, BCTFN was formally established as a foundation in 1998.

Today, BCTFN continues to support carefully selected charitable projects and community initiatives across Thailand through partnerships, fundraising and community support.

Our Projects

Supporting Vulnerable Communities
Across Thailand

Practical infrastructure improvements

While BCTFN increasingly prioritises sustainable and long-term community benefit, the Foundation also recognises that community needs vary and may support projects responding to urgent or compelling humanitarian need.

Featured Project

Clean Water & Sanitation
For Karen Communities

Mae Hong Son Province, Thailand

BCTFN supported a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project delivered by the Karen Hilltribes Trust to improve access to clean water and sanitation for remote Karen communities in northern Thailand.

The project included:

  • gravity-fed water systems

  • water filtration systems

  • sanitation facilities

  • hygiene education

  • community training

Reported outcomes included:

  • improved access to clean water year-round

  • reduced water-borne disease

  • reduced open defecation

  • improved handwashing practices

  • reduced time spent collecting water

  • stronger community resilience

The project combined infrastructure improvements with strong community participation and long-term sustainability planning.

Why Our Work Matters

Many communities across Thailand continue to face challenges relating to poverty, access to healthcare, sanitation, education and community welfare.

Through partnerships with trusted charitable organisations and local community groups, BCTFN helps provide practical support that improves daily life and creates lasting benefit.

The Foundation’s approach focuses on:

  • practical community impact

  • responsible stewardship of donations

  • sustainable outcomes

  • long-term community partnerships

  • supporting vulnerable communities with dignity and respect
